Oh. What I was arguing is that just like that moment was the moment that defined that relationship-- its pinnacle-- so is the ending of Halo 3, and for similar reasons. It's a Sam and Diane problem, in a way. You build up to something and after you've "done it" there's nothing else to do. Star Wars wouldn't have had that problem if, for instance, Solo had died, or merely not been rescued, or were killed in the rescue attempt. (I think the Solo-Leia scene at the start of Jedi works passably well, but once that's done there's nowhere for it to go; it loses its focus.) The relationship between the MC and Cortana was such that it built up to a moment where the ultimate expression of affection and admiration for a faceless, nameless character was the use of his first name. That's what sets that apart from every other scene. Even in the post-credit sequence, she goes back to calling him "Chief". What I objected to was the emotional exploitation of the better-executed climax of Halo 3 for use in this trailer, by having Cortana use his first name again, more than once, in a situation that does not warrant it. These two have been in serious danger before. She's thought he's been dead on multiple occasions. She's always called him "Chief" in those scenes. She only called him "John" when she really thought they were both going to die, and external events made it look like that to the audience, as well. There's not a hint of that here, nor can there be. My suggestion was that if this game means back in the saddle for Chief and Cortana, the proper emotional note to strike would be something more typical of the relationship we see throughout the entire series, not typical of that final climax. Halo 4 (or, for that matter, its trailer) can't open with a threat that is as credible as the firing of Installation 04a which destroys the Ark and half the ship. A few bulkheads collapsing and an unexplained fire? Unworthy.
