I shudder to think of how Lucas would have intended that scene to go. If the "relationship" in the prequels is evidence of that, it's not something he has a knack for. You see : comedy and I see honest/awkward and yes, some humor, but to *us* not : between the two characters. I think honest/awkward AND humor are both there, on the screen, between the two characters. It's typical, scoundrel behavior for Solo as well as typical, gallows humor and bravado. It fits right in with a guy who says "never tell me the odds", and responds to the question "would it help if I got out and pushed" with the answer "yes, it might". It's not a question of whether he's admitting his feelings OR cracking a joke about both himself and her while facing certain death-- because it's both, not only to us, but to the characters as well, I think, consistent with his previous use of humor in the face of danger.
