: I'll think we'll just agree to disagree, there. In real life, responding to a

Not my experience.

: Good god. You've just done something to Solo almost as bad as what Lucas did.
: You've turned him from an arrogant, devil-may-care rogue into a sensitive

*Cracks up*
That was half the intent. What if Lucas had taken a fancy to writing bad romance dialog back then, like he had in the prequels? Gott im Himmel.

: Romeo and Juliet is parody? There have been lots of social changes, as well
: as changes in literary ideas of courtly love, but I have to admit this is
: the first time I've seen R&J called parody. Care to expand on that? Feel

Not sure if it's parody or satire. I never could get those straight.
The theme of "Star-crossed Lovers" is a pretty old one, and I do believe Shakespeare was drawing on earlier stories when he wrote "Romeo & Juliet".
Several times in the stories, however, he makes it clear that Romeo and Juliet's love isn't quite 'true love', but adolescent infatuation. Romeo, from dialog about a woman named Rosaline, is hinted to switch objects of affection at the drop of a hat. At least once during the play, he's told to grow a pair and quit whining. Throughout the play, it's somewhat clear that the two leads are too immature to sit down and think things through, which might have gotten them through the end without killing each other.
