Re: I'm interested to know.

: "Wake me when you need me" is less an expression of "set the
: alarm for the next sequel" as it is a reaffirmation of the nature of
: the Chief's character and the nature of their relationship. It's a twist
: on the classical knight-errant and damsel in distress theme, where the
: damsel has her own area of expertise, in which she is just as
: supercompetent as the Master Chief is in his; but neither can survive
: without the other.

It's also a wonderful tie-in with the King Under the Mountain myth (which Bungie mined in Pathways into Darkness and Marathon, and which cropped up not-so-subtly in the novels) of the hero and his divinely/supernaturally-crafted sword leaving the mortal realm not to die but to rest until his peoples' hour of direst need. I was completely happy ending with that reference, and didn't see the need for a sequel... but fan response (and business case) apparently mandated one.

-- Steve's not "pumped" for Halo 4 but he will certainly take a look at it when more comes out.

PS: If I'd had my druthers the Chief would've sat out a few more titles while 343i built expertise and explored other aspects of the Halo mythos; that would've made the Halo 3 ending more satisfying to me and would've made the Chief's return even more of a splash.
