In Response To: Re: Frankie's Back. With an update ;-) (Frankie) : I think the idea that it's a binary decision is faulty. We didnt say, : "THIS CANNOT BE DONE" or "THIS ONE IS BETTER" we : simply evaluated our options, the time we had, the technological problems, : the relative compromises involved, and a million other factors, and came : to a logical decision. Frankie, I have to ask you a few things. I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of the actual Halo 1 multiplayer component — LANs are a once-in-a-blue-moon occasion for me, if I'm lucky, and the other alternatives aren't options for me — and I want to know from the man himself, "Why?" Why have I and others like me who've craved the opportunity to play H1 MP over XBL been denied that chance? (That means no comments from the peanut gallery; this post is for Frank to respond to.) First off, I heard you on Spike TV yesterday afternoon talking about why you decided on having a "Classic Map Pack" instead of actual H1 MP. You talked about splitting the player base, which is what a lot of other people here said as well as to why we wouldn't get H1 MP at this point in time. I always found myself flabbergasted as to why splitting the player base was such a big deal. So the playlists in Reach would get streamlined to account for fewer players? Well, I say whoopie-freakin-doo. Player bases get split all the time every time some new game comes out. People left H3 for COD4, and Reach for Black Ops, and more will leave for Gears 3, MW3, and eventually Halo 4. So what if H1 siphons off a couple thousand people from Reach? But you guys thought it was a big deal (your reasoning also means the earliest we can expect to see H1 MP on XBL is two years after Halo 6 is released). So explain to me: Why is splitting the player base such a big deal, and why should it be a disqualifying factor for not having H1's MP for H1AE? Second, while you yourself never said that having H1's MP was impossible — though a lot of wannabe experts here have said explicitly or implicitly that H1's MP is literally impossible to make work on XBL — you did say that having it on XBL would "change it irrevocably." Considering that many other notable pre- XBL shooters have been released (and one that's been indefinitely delayed due to rights issues) complete with online MP over XBL with minimal to no changes in gameplay, I always found the whole "it can't be done, and even if it could it'd be changed so much it'd be unrecongnizable" argument to sound rather silly. So explain to me, in detail, what would have to be changed to make H1's MP work over XBL, and why. And nothing about game balance. Who cares if the pistol is overpowered (solution: don't make it a starting weapon) or that the Needler sucked in MP. My friends and I had a damn good time the way it was and wouldn't have it any other way. I want your reasons to be solely technical in nature. Finally, why only seven maps? Are you guys planning on having a second Classic Map Pack with the rest of H1's maps (excluding Blood Gulch for obvious reasons)? I know some maps weren't as popular as others, but they still deserve to be all prettied up. And that includes all of the H1 PC maps.
