In Response To: Re: Frankie's Back. With an update ;-) (Cody Miller) : The fact that that reasoning ever even came into play proves they are not : thinking solely about how to make the best game possible. Even if it's : customs only w/o matchmaking, that is still a huge draw. You overestimate the draw, as do all the purists. It's a testament to how well Bungie made its games that so many like them for so many different reasons, and believe that everybody loves the same things about the games, but it just isn't so. Also... this is a business, Cody. People decide what games to make or not to make based on reasoning like this. Then, within those parameters, they try to make the best game and the best product. Expecting anything else from anyone else is silly, and even Bungie operated this way. : Acceptable reasons for not including mutliplay over XBL: -Technical
I think "not enough demand" should suffice, and I'd argue that is the case. : Unacceptable reasons: -People would play it instead of this other game. When both those titles depend on a feature that absolutely demands a singular, monolithic playerbase it is absolutely an acceptable, valid, and predictable reason. Your objections, and the objections of everyone else who has denied this as a consideration always amounts to "well I don't think it would matter that much"-- an argument of degree, but not of kind. : -It wouldn't be 'the same Halo'. I read that actually as the same as #1. Since they are upgrading Halo and not making a new game based on Halo, this cannot be achieved without making the game not the original Halo 1. I'd guess that it may have been easy, or at least practical to put a new rendering engine on top of Halo 1's gameplay and physics; but putting in network code reaches too deeply into how Halo 1's gameplay works. H1 on the Reach engine could have had this. Reach's rendering code on top of the H1 engine doesn't. How XBL coop is different than that, or if this is true or not, I have no idea, perhaps we'll get clarification at some point. : -We'd have to include all the MP maps from Halo and Halo PC leaving us with
Saber space fights are awesome. Didn't you say Bungie should just focus on making stuff awesome?
