However, the Arena ranking system has been rejected by the community. Just look at the population. The acid test for anything in a marketplace is the demand for it. Hardly anyone wants to play the Arena ranking system compared to those who preferred 1-50. It has failed. I hope the incoming changes will reverse this situation, but I have my doubts. The Halo 3 Team Slayer ranked list has a higher population than Reach Team Arena - right now. That is not a healthy position for Reach. This reason for this lack of population in my eyes is to do with the seasons. I fully agree that the season system by far reduces the impact of boosters, account sellers etc. But, the legit players who like playing with a competitive edge now have their progress reset every month (or 3 months shortly), and it creates a big disincentive for them to play it. Personally I would do away with seasons altogether and intruduce an 'idleness' penalty. Where say you need to play 10 matches every 2 weeks to maintain whatever division you are ranked in. Something needs doing, because Reach's only ranked playlist should be canned if you look at the population and what Bungie have done with playlists with similar populations in the past. In summary, whilst in theory the Arena ranking system makes sense above the old 1-50, it has been rejected by the player population.
