In Response To: Why We Should Never Go Back to 1-50.. or (FyreWulff) There's just one thing, though. While the current system is an improvement over the old 1-50 system, it has some large flaws. Now instead of a black market run by cheaters, we have a system that rewards various forms of griefing and boosting. Players get very little in the way of credits for winning games, which is a big part of the problem. The bulk of their credits come from game completion bonuses (primarily a function of time spent in a game), commendations, and challenges. This is where you get problems like AKFers in Firefight, people resetting challenges, or people deliberately running the clock out in objectives so they can continually spawn camp with the Banshee. Credit aquisition, like ranking up, is many player's primary focus, and many will try to exploit the system any way they can. Ranks and player investment systems will always influence they way many people play and even give incentive for some to engage in various behaviors that aren't exactly kosher. The only way to keep people from abusing these systems is to not have them in the first place. No visible ranks of any kind, whether they're skill- or experience-based, and no player investment system that requires playing in Matchmaking. Unlockable content should be tied to achievements like in Halo 3 (though unlike Halo 3 achievements should never involve multiplayer). I'd even go so far as to argue against any kind of stat tracking. Eliminating these systems is the only way to make sure that the most we have to deal with are the occasional asshole who griefs for the sake of griefing and that most players will play the game just to be playing it and have a good time rather than obsessing over their e-peen or how many credits they need for a new armor piece.
