In Response To: Re: Rebetrayability (Narcogen) : I'm more looking at just approaches and outcomes. Regardless of the other : elements in the scenario, when you look at vehicles in H1 there are only : two outcomes: destroy or avoid. You can destroy the vehicle (killing the : pilot) or you can run away. In H3 and beyond, there are three outcomes: : destroy, avoid, hijack. The hijack outcome gives you a vehicle you can : then either use or not use, whereas scenarios in H1 that include enemy : vehicles but not friendly vehicles give you no such opportunity. : As a general rule, this multiplies all the possible outcomes because anything
I'm not looking at just approaches and outcomes, and I don't see why I would want to, since that approach completely ignores the intricaces of combat. And those intricaces are what describes what works about Halo CE's combat; by ignoring them and simply looking at approaches and outcomes, you ignore everything that makes Halo CE's combat special. It's like assessing the Karesansui Rock Garden by tallying up the total monetary value of the rocks in it, or counting how many rocks it has. As I've said before, a whole lot of things in Halo 3 feel similar to me to do. Sure, there are a ton of various {weapon, enemy, enemy weapon, enemy vehicle, outcome} combinations, but if within them there isn't as much actual gameplay variety, then so what? : Now, a Halo 1 remake in HD on the modern engine? Well, AotCR on that game
If it were an extremely close remake, it might sit with me similarly to how AotCR already does. Otherwise, I suspect it would likely suffer from the same issues that I think already give the newer games less gameplay variety than HCE.
