In Response To: Re: Rebetrayability (uberfoop) : I'm not entirely sure I agree. I want dynamic and complex, not random. The desert island scenario assumes a lifetime to play and nothing else, though. At some point, no matter how dynamic and complex, without an unexpected element you will end up having seen and done everything in every possible way. : It adds a little, but for me not much more than a very small finite amount.
I'm more looking at just approaches and outcomes. Regardless of the other elements in the scenario, when you look at vehicles in H1 there are only two outcomes: destroy or avoid. You can destroy the vehicle (killing the pilot) or you can run away. In H3 and beyond, there are three outcomes: destroy, avoid, hijack. The hijack outcome gives you a vehicle you can then either use or not use, whereas scenarios in H1 that include enemy vehicles but not friendly vehicles give you no such opportunity. As a general rule, this multiplies all the possible outcomes because anything you can do in H1 you can do in H3, and anywhere in H3 where there is a vehicle, you can either destroy it or capture it, and then either discard it or use it. : Sure, but honor rules and skulls are both artificial and arbitrary. Being that you're on a desert island you can just declare all things that are artificial and arbitrary to be tasty and delicious. I'm not really sure why these two things are to be counted against the H3.x engine with respect to this scenario. : I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree; what I do know is that, while
I won't disagree. It was really tough not to pick AotCR, frankly, and doubly so because I don't like Brutes and the Ark is a whole lot of Brutes. I'm looking at this as a test way beyond the idea of "what level would I like to play right now" or "what level have I played an awful lot and still liked" because a lot of those mentioned pass those tests. I'm thinking of a number of replays that goes far beyond what any normal person would voluntarily undergo. I think there's a point at which just about any of the levels loses its luster, but when you come down to skulls, equipment, boarding and AI driving, the H3 levels let you add another layer of variety there that can't be put into H1 no matter how hard you try (although Captain Spark comes damn close). Now, a Halo 1 remake in HD on the modern engine? Well, AotCR on that game would win easily.
