In Response To: Two Betrayals (uberfoop) : While the non-HCE Halo games have, almost all of them, gotten more more : replay value than any non-Halo FPS games, HCE has gotten me vastly more : replay value than any of the other Halo games. If I was stuck on a desert : island, I'm not sure I'd even consider many of the levels from the other : titles; perhaps The Ark or The Covenant would be candidates. While I'd agree that H1 is perhaps the single most replayable title, I'm not sure that it's still got the most replayable level in the series. Two Betrayals is great, but there are a lot of gameplay options it doesn't have that limit the scope of what you can do. There's no vehicle boarding. In every game since H2 you can switch up your approach to the enemy by trying to take a vehicle from he enemy intact and use it against them. Halo 1 doesn't have this option. Equipment/Loadouts. In some form or other, all the games starting from Halo 3 give you a choice of additional abilities that you can use to vary your play style. Simple Flood. Before H3 the only real variation in Flood enemies came from what they were armed with. The addition of pureforms, with their mix of fast moving units, long range units, and unarmed but up-close melee units, provides a more varied challenge. I still like fighting Flood less than fighting the Covenant, but if you want variety it has to be Halo 3's Flood. : And of the potential candidates, I think I'd go with Two Betrayals. Its got
I love all those levels as well, and it may very well be true that I've played them more so far than any of the levels from the later games. However, I think when it comes down to it, once you reach the point where you're painfully familiar with every element, the Halo 1 experience gives you fewer obvious buttons and levers to push to modify the way the game plays compared to what comes after. Besides, in Halo 3, when you get tired of playing your one campaign level, you can replay a film, and fly around the landscape watching yourself play-- or watch the enemies react to you as you play.
