As for Miranda, I see her key flaw as being Keyes's daughter. Yeah, that relation opened up a can of worms and made her character somewhat trite, but I believe it was handled somewhat well. As we saw in Halo 2 and Halo 3, she was trying too hard to be this great leader. She had to be the one to lead the troops into the Library, she had to be the one to go down to the platform inside the Control Room and pull the Index out. She had to be the one to fly the Marines out of Crows Nest after you saved them. She had to be the one to fly in and save Johnson. She was stuck trying to be this hero, trying to live up to her father's example. As a result, she couldn't delegate, she ended up putting herself in more danger than is reasonably necessary, and she failed more often than she won. Crappy way to live.
