In Response To: Halo 3's Storytelling... (uberfoop) : ...isn't as relatively weak as people make it out to be. For all its surface : problems, its built on a very strong core. And in the realm of narrative : flow, while it's arguably slightly topheavy and, uh, bottomlight, it's : still smooth and cohesive. It's only cohesive because it caters to the lowest common denominator, or to put it more specificaly "the casual gamers who haven't played the previous games or just don't give a shit about the story". It also doesn't help that the core that Halo 3's story is built on is rarely ever mentioned or brought to the forefront, the Covenant civil war? Almost completely ignored, let alone the overall poor writing in general. The whole games entire first act is complete filler, the entire first 4 missions consists of one characters journey to do one thing... TO DESTROY ONE FREAKING AA GUN!!!!!! : And, as you mentioned, while its scripted writing is probably substantially : inferior to HCE Halo 2's, it does have its froodlenutzskying moments. : Anyone else like "we head through the portal, and we all go : home."? Simple, perhaps slightly cliche, but the context works for it : and gives it nice subtext. The best scene in the game IMO is the end of Floodgate, mainly because of the interaction between the humans an Elites, it remined me of the Covenant focused cinema scenes in Halo 2 which are still awesome! : I personally wouldn't hold Halo 3's campaign on the same pedestal I plop HCE : onto, but it's definitely a functioning 3rd act to the trilogy. I disagree, when just counting the story it doesn't deserve to be in the same trilogy as Halo 1 and Halo 2 so as far as I'm concerned I'm still waiting for the that killer third act that never was.
