Personally, I felt I played the crap out of that game. At least as much as I've currently sunk into Mass Effect, Homeworld, Civilization, or Half-Life. I'll probably play through Half-Life 2 and its episodes again soon, and once I get a PC capable of gaming Homeworld is at the top of the list. I wouldn't call the desire to play any of the games nostalgia, but more like going back to a favorite vacation spot because it's awesome. Sometimes, you need time away from the place to appreciate it again. This discussion reminds me a lot of that PAX East panel regarding 'The Greatest Game of All Time.' Like that panel, which basically settled on Ocarina of Time as the best ever right from the get go, we'll be able to name maybe the top one or two characters (Mario? Link?) and constantly debate the rest. Personally, I'd put Chief lower as well. That's probably because we're hardcore gamers, and have been exposed to more than the general public. Chief would certainly deserve to be higher on a list like this Guinness one because of his impact on the culture at large.
