In Response To: Want to fly a Pelican/Phantom? (kornman00) I honestly think that Korman was being selfish and grabbing the lionshare of the pleasure of the hunt for himself. I hear that he's done wonders for the Halo CE community, which unfortunately, I couldn't be a part of, but did he find easter eggs? The bulk of Halo 1's easter eggs were found the old-fashioned way, through luck and pluck, and like the bard said, "nothing pleaseth like rare accident." More words from Will: "If all the world were playing holidays, to sport would be as tedious as to work." That's what these easter eggs have been boiled down to, someone examines the code, finds enough information to uncover the eggs, posts how to do it, everyone follows the instructions, gets some momentary fun, and then it's over. Ideally, this sort of egg is a community-building exercise that lasts weeks or longer, where different people bring different clues and ideas together until someone puts the pieces together and unlocks it. 100 hours by an individual was not required. It's obvious that Bungie intended this to be figured out within the context of the game. Why deny them and us this? To those who say they don't have time, well, then, good for you. You have a life! Enjoy it, and don't obsess about flying a pelican TODAY. I wholeheartedly disagree with those who say this egg never would have been found. Considering all the clues we had, I'd have given it a week, maybe. I realize that it is the nature of digital content that little or nothing can be done to prevent this, but in my ideal world there would be something like a hacker's honor code where game code was off-limits for six months to a year. This really wouldn't have bothered me a year from now (but there's no way this easter egg would've gone a year undiscovered). There may be eggs in the code that are intended to be found there. I don't know. I guess ideally hackers would see themselves as having privileged information and at least coordinate with Bungie what they should share when. Let's let everyone partake in the sense of discovery.
