In Response To: Re: Halo remakes? *Reach SP* (ArteenEsben) : That sounds awesome and is exactly the game I want. This where you lose me. Redesigning levels, sure. New gametypes, go for it. Patching continuity by referencing or even including Prophets, Brutes, Drones and Engineers, sure. Adjusting physics, weapon balance, etc., okay, I can see the point of that. But you surely can't be serious when you say you really would like the stuff you quote from my previous post? I mean, I don't want to sound like I'm taking this a bit too seriously, but damn, don't you think... I dunno, don't you think you're being a bit... immature about this? Maybe you're not much of a Combat Evolved fan in relation to the other games, and that's fine. But from those four points alone, it sounds like you'd happily kill all the little things which made CE what it was. It's like when I see the cover of First Strike and they are holding Plasma Repeaters... it's tacky. It's not breaking canon at all, but it IS cheesy. Let's face it, there're holding Plasma Repeaters (just as TFoR's Spartans are holding Army-issue ARs) because they are new and shiny and Reach is totally exciting and let's throw it everywhere because it's cool. To me that's like a child saying his favourite movie is the one he saw most recently because it was new, and therefore automatically better. I genuinely can't see the point in remaking a game if you're going to change almost everything that made it what it was. Theatre, Forge, vehicle boarding, assassinations, Wraiths, Engineers, Brutes, Drones, Skirmishers, new weapons, new levels and new gametypes, I'd TOTALLY be up for all of those, and much more besides. I'm not saying keep Halo 1 static in a remake, but at least give it some respect. There's a reason so many people think it was the best in the series, and that's because it's a genuinely good game. You don't need to replace everything and mess it around - you'll often just make it worse, not better. I don't believe Combat Evolved is perfect. But it's a damn fine game, and very close to my heart, as games go, at least. So why mess with the fundamentals? Fix things, tweak things, add things, but don't *break* things.
