In Response To: Re: If it's pitch-perfect, awesome. Otherwise... (Cody Miller) : What exactly WOULD you change? To me, the point of a remake is to change : things, or else, why remake it? If all you're going to do is update the : graphics, then really what's the point? You've got to give me a reason to : buy it. Halo 1 still exists and I can play it. It sounds like you like : pretty much everything about it. So… why not play it? Halo 1 lacks Theater Mode. So while I might enjoy playing it as much as any more recent game, I cannot easily record and share those experiences with others. The same applies to screenshots. Halo 1 lacks Forge. I cannot customize its levels or share customizations with friends. Halo 1 lacks online multiplayer. I cannot play against my friends on the Internet except through tunneling kludges, and even with them, I lose all the extra features of XBL and Bungie.net. Halo 1 lacks network cooperative play, so the only way I can experience coop campaign play is through split screen, even if I have two consoles on the same local network. Beyond the gameplay itself, as an experience, Halo has broadened since Halo 1, and returning to it underscores the absence of those elements mentioned above, not to mention the gameplay changes as well-- indestructible vehicles, not being able to commandeer vehicles, not being able to dual wield, etc etc. I can see lots of reasons why people might not want it, or why 343 and MS might not want to do it, but I could also see a case for a straight-up graphical update that moves H1's content into the Reach engine, with improvements in graphical fidelity, the addition of all the above missing features, and changes in gameplay as dictated by the change in engines (use of Havok, etc etc). I would tweak the game itself only to the extent required by those changes-- for instance, rebalancing things to account for different weapons, for different vehicle behavior, etc etc. It's not the same thing as saying "there is a market for such a product" but I can say that if that existed, I would probably buy it. I would go so far as to say I'd probably be more likely to buy that than I would be to buy a Halo 4 featuring the Master Chief and Cortana, but authored by a group other than Bungie.
