In Response To: Re: Hawaiian Pig's Fantabulous Story Review *SP* (Hawaiian Pig) : What kind of character is this? How is that compelling or any different from : what was conveyed in the cutscene? I used the cutscene as an example : because cutscenes are explicitly made for telling story. I could have just : as easily used random boring lines of dialogue throughout the game. : This was exactly my problem. She's flat and boring. Each member only gets a line or two in order to communicate their characters-- that's the nature of having six characters in one game where the focus is on gameplay and not story. Kat, to me, is neither flat nor boring: she's pragmatic. She forces Carter to face up to what he doesn't want to realize: that this isn't just a series of bad things happening, but the beginning of an ending, and that justifies using Spartans in a different way-- a way he is objecting to. I found a certain kind of bravery her statement-- her willingness to unflinchingly look at what is going on and admit that they are going to lose. This just happens to dovetail nicely with her tech job: since she's monitoring communications, she has context the others lack.
