Anyone bothered by the glorification of martyrdom displayed in Halo: Reach? The other Halo games are about surviving, maybe at the cost of other peoples' lives, but the main protagonists always survive and are ultimately victorious over their enemies. Reach is about dying so other people can do that. It sort of seems like military propaganda, though I know Bungie didn't intend that. Die in service of the people - a very kamikaze line of thinking. I'm reminded of the Norse people, who believed that they must die in battle so that they could go to Valhalla and fight for an eternity. I know Americans are more fond of that theme than we usually acknowledge, but this seems oddly extreme for an American game.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
