I : wouldn't be surprised if the Myth engine was built on the base provided by : the Marathon engine. No, as far as I know they Myth engine was fully 3D. The landscape and structures were rendered in fully 3D space. Only the units were sprite based. Marathon was 2.5D because it 'cheated' a lot, and the game world wasn't rendered in true 3D. No rooms over rooms, and looking up and down was accomplished by distorting the geometry. For fun, make a physics file in Anvil that lets you look up higher than you otherwise could, and you'll see what it's doing. So even though both used sprite for the units, Myth placed them in 100% 3D space.
