If the Covenant were to copy technology like : that, why didn't they make their ships look Forerunner as well? It's like : they just picked this one obscure feature, didn't really know why it was : there, and just decided add it to their ships that are otherwise different : in almost every way. In fairness, we've not exactly seen a whole lot of Forerunner ships.
It is perhaps less odd if one supposes the designs have more to do with what Engineers might have cobbled together from left-over Forerunner tech, or are also the result of a series of compromises.
