The idea of the Covenant directly replicating that tech from Forerunner vessels becomes odd however, when you realize how different Forerunner and Covenant ships are from each other in terms of both structure and looks. Nowhere near the same design. If the Covenant were to copy technology like that, why didn't they make their ships look Forerunner as well? It's like they just picked this one obscure feature, didn't really know why it was there, and just decided add it to their ships that are otherwise different in almost every way.
