: That's a bit simplified, but not more than necessary, I think. The Cole Protocol is 2535, not 2534. The Protocol itself is established in 2535. This is from the Xbox.com timeline info and reinforced by the Halo Encyclopedia. It is mentioned in The Cole Protocol novel that the Midsummer Night is enforcing said protocol indicating it was recently 'rolled out'. I think elsewhere it says something about a metter of weeks. At any rate, the novel's events can't be from 2534.
