In Response To: Re: and would it be so hard to put in dates? (Bry) : It probably isn't you know. At least I wouldn't expect it to be, not at this : point. I'm referring to Legends and the stuff they've already released, or the stuff they plan on releasing soon (the Forerunner novels and such). I doubt they have anything fleshed out beyond even two years right now (it would be awesome if I were wrong, but I'm being realistic). : But then, that was never really the case with Halo anyway.
Time warping crystals. :( But I loved First Strike aside from that nonsense. : What I trust in Frankie and co is that they won't screw it up. I agree, and my complaints are to try and keep things from being screwed up. Putting dates on some things does help to create a commitment to certain information, thus making it more solid and putting more emphasis on getting it right from the start. : And by introducing 'safety' I see that as a concentrated effort to do
Very true, but nothing explanations couldn't fix. Some things clearly are wrong, and other things that seem right may truly need a fix that we don't know about. I also wonder how much the issues with development of Halo 2 changed things, since they had to restart so much. : As I recall, some of the established dates didn't match up with ones in ODST,
More or less. The dates appear to make sense until you get into really analyzing it, about just how exactly Miranda and Johnson got back to Earth, how they could have possibly beat the Chief (even with the stop by Jupiter), etc. Again, I throw back to Halo 2's development problems and wonder how many things got totally screwed up and messed around from where they should have been regarding gameplay, story, and the timeline. If anything, ODST was Bungie retconning part of that mess while still leaving the story for how Miranda and everyone got to Earth for 343 Industries/an Eric Nylund novel to explain in a manner that actually works. Now THERE is something that could use an actual retcon and explanation and solid dating.
