Any time that anything : is the slightest bit out of place, whether it's dates or measurements or : whatever, everybody freaks out. If I was in the position that Bungie and : 343i are in now, I wouldn't want to give away ANY solid facts. Yeah, but why ruin it for everyone just because a couple of us are babies? I definitely don't like canonical inconsistencies, and I've harped about it constantly in regards to Halo Wars (mostly because there's still been no explanation from anyone official explaining or validating any of it, not that they have to, and thus I have every right to continue having issues with it), but I fully understand that these things happen. I still hold what Bungie says is canon above all else, and when 343 Industries officially takes over all things Halo from Bungie, I guess they will dictate canon. Will I throw a fit if 343 up and decides to retcon bunches of stuff that Bungie set in stone? Hell yes. As far as I'm concerned, whatever Bungie has made canon stays that way when they're done. Is that my call to make? Hell no, it's simply my opinion. But when it comes to general universe stuff and knowledge (dates, slip space travel, time, specs), if these things start getting changed or disregarded (like my issues with Halo Wars), I think we have legitimate complaints. So how can that be made better? It helps when we get an actual explanation, like when Bungie has explained why they've changed things or done things beyond a simple "because we did and that's that and this is now canon and suck it up." If Frankie decided that Prototype took place in 2545, but then decided it made better sense to stick it in 2551 given what we know about advancements in technology by that time or how much the Covenant had crippled us in terms of personnel and resources, and he explained that to us in literally that one sentence, well bam. Oh god, the date changed! If people have a problem with it, too bad. It's a date, and there was a good explanation for why it changed beyond "because we felt like it" (or no response at all, and you just have to accept it--or not, in many cases).
