In Response To: A question (Archilen) : When was the prototype suit created? Was it an offshoot of the earlier : MJOLNIR models like Mark I, II or III or did it predate them? Or was it : brand new during the events of Prototype? Judging by the presence of the : built-in bubble shield, it looks like it must've been built after the UNSC : got their hands on Covenant shield technology. Of course, the shield : generator could've been added later. Mysteries as usual. :) Using a bit of what passes for logic with me, given the similarities, the progress of the war, that this is still apparently a one-of-a-kind prototype that it was keyed up and ready to go (ie not just in storage), it would seem unlikely that this suit pre-dated MJOLNIR or was especially old at that time. Should very much be an active project. Also I think the commentary said something about how it was using aspects of MJOLNIR tech to try and increase the effectiveness of your typical soldier, again going back to how there are just no-where near enough Spartans and that they were very expensive.
