In Response To: Re: The million dollar question (Shishka) : The closest analog to what your asking for would be the ability to : turn off checkpoints while you're playing (because if you hit a : checkpoint, it's already too late), but I believe all parties involved : would find that solution less than satisfactory. That's not how Halo 1, Halo 2, or Halo 3 work. If you restore a "saved game" and then hit a checkpoint (or a dozen), you can quit from the menu and then restore the game from that most recent checkpoint, or you can quit to the dash or by power cycling and then restore that "saved game" from the same point you restored it earlier. It won't have recorded the most recent checkpoint(s). Mig tried to clarify that to both of Otto's comments. And Otto admitted we were probably right.
