Maybe you were thinking of another Mike Miller video? I checked 'In Too Deep' and 'Winning Isn't Everything', but there was no descent there either. The descent footage in Scurty's speedrun was clearer than I've seen before for that method where you run off parallel to the cliff from within a V and try to stay on the ledge below. Previously I had to give up on it because I couldn't stay on. This footage gives me a better idea of where I should land, so I'll give it another go. The GNF video likewise makes use of that V, with three examples. I've just been trying the second one at 2:42 with gameplay by Sean Oehrle - which is similar to the third by Mr. Nibbles at 6:58, and I actually got down! But not quite the same way. When I bounced off the ledge I went off at quite an angle but fluked a soft enough landing against the side of a small rock. Those two players seemed able to get themselves pulled back in towards the cliff after bouncing off the ledge, as if magnetically attracted to it. I can drift myself a little with the joystick, but nowhere near that much. So maybe there's a difference in joystick drift, for different versions of the game?
