I like this:

: When writing about a fictional universe, I would say it is better to think

I think you should also remember 343 also just got Halo Evolutions out the door, which you might enjoy based on what you've said - so have hope!

And I think Legends compared with Evolutions is very reflective of those different approaches of expanding a universe like you're saying - one being more 'hey lets have some fun in this universe' while the other seems more a serious exploration of and addition to the universe. Right now, we're getting a mixed bag of stuff where not everyone is going to like all of it - but I do believe with the Evolutions out there now, there's plenty of more 'classical' Halo out there for the fans of that aspect. So there is at least one nugget of goodness for the different corners of the fandom, IM0, so I don't think it's THAT shaky of a start. :)
