Frankie's Answers about The Package, etc.
Posted By: AngelicLionheart <AngelicLionheart@gmail.com>Date: 12/5/09 10:38 a.m.

In Response To: The Package on Saturday (Frankie)

: I will try to get on and answer questions about the Package tomorrow. Or at
: least the first part. Part II has WAY more things people will be asking
: about. Which in turn has NOWHERE near as many freakout moments as Origins.

Okay, so first of all...

*Halo fan freakout time*

ZOMGWTHTHATWASCRAZYAWESEMEOMGOMGOMGTOTALLYFREAKINGAWESOMEFULLOFWINWHEREISTHERESTOFITIWANTITNOWZOMGZGOMZGOM!!!!11111!!!1!1one111!!eleven!!one-eleven!!!

*ahem*
*straightens tie*

Now that mah fangazm's over, I would like to move on to something a little more intelligible. :)

That was awesome, dude, thank you so much for helping make that happen. I really, really enjoyed it.

So far, I've been able to just chalk up any problem I've had with these to the fact that Bungie themselves didn't make it or to the fact that it was made by people who were not pathetically-ridiculous Halo freaks like myself and many others on this forum.

So while I've not yet perceived any episode as being flawless in terms of being perfectly accurate to established canon (down to the most nitty-gritty detail), I'm cool with that. I'm taking these as I get them. I'm having the same reaction that I had in Halo Wars, which was one of "Wait, what? Oh. Right. Not Bungie and not made by someone who demanded that every single nitty-gritty detail be right."

And while I'm whining, let me say this: I love the Mark V helmet and to a lesser degree, the Mark V chestplate (not saying that Halo 1's or Halo 3 Multiplayer's Mark V model geometry need be the end-all be-all visual description of it, I just like the design way better than the bug-like Mark VI helmet). Where is the Mark V helmet love? As far as the armor in "The Package" goes, in my own mind, I'm saying to myself "Just like how they don't all have buzzcuts in the image but they do in the canon, they all have Mark VI-looking armor in the image but they actually all have EVA armor in the canon, just like Kelly-087 does in the image. Because that would make more sense."

Also, in regards to the end of part 1: YOU FREAKING TEASES!!! How LAME! lol. Ending the first part of the episode like that was just WRONG!!! And dirty!!! lol, WRONG AND DIRTY!!! (can I get a re-dub of Weird Al's "White and Nerdy", please? anyone?) We're not friends anymore. No, get away from me, no cuddles. Not anymore.

Now that my whining is done...

*gasp*

You are saying that Part 2 of The Package has more freakout fuel? And that Origins has like, septuple the amount of freakout moments? zomg. *gets real quiet* I might need to psyche myself up for this. *grabs paper sack, begins measured breathing*

You could easily do an entire season of a Halo Anime, a la The Roughneck Chronicles. Different studio, probably, but that's not the point. Halo should make MORE than enough money to merit such a thing, IF IT IS DONE RIGHT. (typed in all caps because the beginning of that last sentence scares me, because I know some suits somewhere have this Halo=cash association in their minds)

So now. My questions/thanks:

Fred-104 is either my favorite SPARTAN-II from the books or he's tied with John-117 as my favorite SPARTAN-II from the books. Seeing him was extremely gratifying. And as far as his behavior goes, it was also extremely gratifying. Didn't you write each of these episodes, Frankie? If so, thanks for nailing Fred-104's behavior. His degree of concern for and attachment to each of the other SPARTAN-IIs was present. The degree of his ability was present. The fact that he is John-117's right-hand man was present. The scars on his face that each memorialize a mistake, ...that wasn't in the books, but it totally matches his character. THANK YOU. Also, Doesn't Fred-104 have black hair? And if so, are we just to chalk this up to the "anime hair" thing, or does he now have brown hair?

I'm digging that Uniform that the Captain of that ONI vessel was wearing. Pretty fly, for an ONI guy. Is that canonical or is that artistic license? Uniforms are serious business, you know. Also, I really really like his voice. Very authentic sounding for the character that is being portrayed.

Canonical question: Did SPARTAN-IIs personalize their armor, or is it as it is written in First Strike, page 121:
"She knew this annoyed them all--how she was always able to tell who they were despite the MJOLNIR armor. She had grown up with them, knew their every gesture and their individual walks." ?

I doubt the SPARTAN-IIs would be annoyed that Dr. Halsey could tell them apart from each other if they each personalized their armor. Sure it's cool for multiplayer and it was acceptable back in the day of the Sparta spartans, but it doesn't make sense in a combat situation for the SPARTAN-IIs. Differentiation is information that the enemy need not have.

ONI vessel question: "?"You know, I am just going to leave a big ol' question mark here, because I get the feeling that there are many, many questions about this that you will not answer. Things like "Did they integrate Covenant technology? Or did they integrate Forerunner technology directly?" and "OMG... WHAT AND HOW?" and other such inquires. It would be a long thread of replies to replies, going something like:

"What about..."
"Nope can't answer that one."
"Well what about...?"
"Nope, not that one either."
"Well you can at least..."
"Oh, yeah, that one I can. See, what had happened was..."

So yeah. Gonna save us both a lot of time and just leave you with that question mark. :)

Booster frames: Those booster frames were so much cooler than what I had allowed for in my mind! That's exactly the kind of vehicle that a MJOLNIR-clad SPARTAN-II unit should be equipped with! When they used plasma rounds, those rounds seemed to "home in" on their targets. Is this related to the kind of plasma guidance methods that the Covenant use?

Also, I saw that when you hear the captain say "Find the ship, Find a way in..." that the back of the MJOLNIR armor is "attached" to the booster frame. Later in the episode, I noticed that Kelly-087's EVA armor had wires coming out of it, seemingly going to the booster frame. Am I to presume that the booster frames are controlled by the SPARTAN-IIs in a fashion similar to the way that the SPARTAN-IIs control their MJOLNIR armor? As in, via their thoughts?

Also, When John-117 said "Optimize mobility", the missile racks on the Booster Frames slid out, changing the shape of the Booster Frames. What did he mean by saying that? Is this part of how zero-G movement and combat works with the booster frames, is utilizing leverage and such? Or did they optimize their mobility in another way?

Arthur-079: How did he die? It looked like he got squished by a trash compactor or something. My first thought was that two Covenant ships were smashing into each other in order to squish the SPARTAN-IIs flying between them, but I wasn't sure. I know that he only got into that position in order to hold back the Seraph fighters after they tagged Kelly-087, but I don't understand how he died. Seems like he could be a really cool SPARTAN-II though, so I'm hoping that I get to see some of his earlier ground operations at some later point.

So, about Solomon. Cool name. Not so cool approach to the situation, lol. I guess the horror movie stereotype of "the black guy always dies first" is true in Halo as well, lol. I guarantee you that that's coming up somewhere, in somebody's mind. :P Was he just being impatient? Or did he really have the authority to pursue that action without getting approval from his team leader first? There's a reason why you check your good idea in with your team leader before you pursue it, and Solomon found that out first hand when I would think that he would have learned it earlier in his life as a SPARTAN-II. Kinda wonderin' about that. Also, Didn't SPARTAN-IIs frown upon goatees and such? Isn't that kind of like what a "dirty civilian" would do and below any soldier, let alone a SPARTAN-II? :-)~

Since when did Cobra Commander don Elite Flight armor? lol. Sorry, I couldn't help but point that out. I facepalmed when I heard him speak.

Final question: Can you please release this in 1080p at 120fps or higher for displays that support it? The high-res image is nice, but especially with this CGI animation, having it be at 120fps on a 120Hz display would be PHENOMENAL. Even if it were online-only, and not on the Blu-Ray, I'd be okay with that. My monitor is actually Pure 120Hz, not that Motion-Plus tech that some LCD TV's employ. And my TV will be 120Hz minimum as well, once I get it. So I'd really like to not just be limited to 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps at 120Hz, you know? Really, if I could have it any way, I'd have it be like, 10,000 fps, lol, so that you could see this stuff in super-slow-mo, but hey, like that's ever going to happen, right? So I'll be happy with 120.
