In Halo 3, : we see large dock structures in Voi, over 100 km away; while in real life, : there's only a small river that runs through it. This is seemingly : implying that there was a larger bed of water there and access to the : ocean. Now the peninsula to the northwest could've been removed on : purpose, or at least partially, by sea levels climbing due to global : warming. The area seems to be mostly a large flood plain; meaning it's : extremely low. : Or, it just isn't there because they didn't bother to add it to the texture. : But i find that less likely, as they rest of the landmasses around the : island are almost perfectly accurate; why would they leave that part off? : Also, the abundance of sea on where used to be land, and the fact there : are huge sea walls around the island, seem to imply that global warming : has affected the sea levels radically. : Another thing is, why would the humans bother to build a massive canal all : the way to Voi? If it's because of cargo, it could easily be transported : in trucks to Mombasa; no need to build a huge waterway. I'm sure there's : some reason though. Could be because of the Traxus factory and the massive : need for industrial traffic. Another potential piece to the puzzle is the Global Water Campaign that was big in eastern Africa. (See Ghost Town MP map). Water routes and such through Africa may have been engineered to facilitate that concern.
