Not looking it up, taking your word on that.
I do recall Brute's also nicking UNSC nukes though, so simply stealing it is always an option.
The Brutes liked doing that. At least in Halo 2, they were fond of human weapons too.
That seemed to be somewhat forgotten in H3.

: * The existence and abstract appearance of overshields and invisibility
: powerups in H1.

I think we can easily retcon this one as just imagining they are their equipment counterpart.
Say overshield being invincibility and active cam being the cloaking equipment, just lying around.

: * The appearance of Engineers and Hunters in Halo Wars when they're unknown
: in Fall of Reach.

I don't really have an objection there, since I don't consider FoR to be gospel (gasp, heresy!). Same with First Strike.
It might be that I never read the novels until early 2006, but a fair bit of the info in both never seemed to make a whole lot of sense compared to what I had long encountered and got used to in both games.
So rather than go nuts trying to make sense of it or fall back on the age-old ONI coverup theories, I just put FoR and FS into the "not entirely reliable" pile.
Always good to see Stephen's thoughts though after he's used the forklift truck to get his room-sized document to the right pages. ;)

Influence of a proper Gravemind nearby rather than being just 'feral' Flood?
(doesn't apply to the revival of course. But one I can add: Why, starting in Halo 2, do the Flood self destruct if they are, quite literally, disarmed?)

: * Grunt fuel rod guns being described as always self-destructing in First
: Strike, but never doing it in the post-H1 games.

Hopefully something as simple as the Sangheil realising its really bloody stupid that your entire squad can blow itself up because one Grunt died or clumsily dropped his FRC.

I think they long became pretty multi-use rather than just to contain the Flood.
They construct the Halo's for one thing and are present on places with no Flood, like the Ark.

Just a dead-man switch, right? Don't they just scavenge the gauntlet and then reactive them?

: * Hunters being bigger and tougher in H2 than in H1.

Hmmm, well, I think the force at Alpha Halo was meant to be primarily exploration and excavation, rather than combat, right? That's not so much related to gameplay though, just an observation of an apparent inconsistency.

: * The fact that the Chief and Elites can flip tanks - that can't be
: considered in estimates of their strength?

The ease of which they are flipped makes it look pretty funny, but given that a Spartan was able to throw around an SOEIV a pretty big distance, it seems a little less crazy.
(btw Stephen, notice how the new article on Waypoint refers to the Halo 2 design as an HEV and the ODST design as a SOEIV? Think they are trying to draw a distinction between them there, since that was one of your pet peeves with ODST)
