Re: Legends: What's up with the ruins?

: There has already been a lot of discussion regarding the ruins, but i
: consider it so large an error i thought it deserves its own thread.

: Seriously. The ruins are obviously not Forerunner; if they are, i have to say
: i'm unimpressed with the artists' ability to follow established designs.
: Now Delta Halo had some unexplained ruins. But those were distinctively
: Forerunner in style; angular and geometric surfaces instead of pagodas or
: dragons or buddha statues and stuff like that.

: The thing is, why would any ancient extraterrestrial culture utilise exactly
: similar architecture and decorations as a culture on earth? The most
: probable explanation is that the artists thought it'd be cool to throw in
: some asian architecture, because they're asians themselves. Even if it
: doesn't make the slightest sense in the setting.

: I hope we won't be seeing anything like this in the future, 'cause i consider
: it an error, even if it was explained somehow. There's really no excuse
: for stuff like this. If they are supposed to be remnants of some other
: culture, please, make them look more believably alien instead of ripping
: off something as recognisable as japanese/asian architecture. You might
: think that aesthetics don't matter. Well they do. And things like this can
: really break the suspension of disbelief for people like me, and probably
: many others.

But it's not some new architecture that could be viewed as a cultural subset of the Forerunner. It's Japanese architecture on an alien world. Big difference.
