in the books and games there are females in every level of the UNSC. Marines, ODST's, intelligence officers, commanders of fleets, and Spartans.
and the continued statement that there are not women serving in combat areas in today's military shows a bit of ignorance as well. there are generally no women in units in the most forward areas, but there are great numbers of women serving in convoy units (which end up in combat all the time) as well as other areas.
