Everything I've Come to Expect | |

Halo Legends was everything I've come to expect from a Japanese animation studio. I'll start with the good: The story was an alright story; especially considering it was just a glimpse into the Halo universe. The OK: The architecture on the planet was obviously a nod at Japanese architecture, which I believe was alright. Studies show that the natural progression of civilizations tend to be similar. So it would make since that ancient Forerunner (essentially humans) would follow a similar progression as Earth.
The BAD! As the title says, everything I've come to expect. The animation was: Firstly, very sloppy. That's not to say I could do better, but for a professional team, it looked worse than some of the fan made things I find on Newgrounds. The animation was also lazy (showing one frame for multiple seconds for "dramatic" effect). Proportions and perspective were practically non-existent. Personally, I hate the way anime characters look, but that is an art style, so it really has no merit here.
The idea of Legends is great, and I am VERY happy to get it. This first episode was just so much less than it should have been. With Halo getting better and better, it seems that this episode brought the production quality of the franchise down a bit. I'm hoping the next installments are better. Perhaps in the future one of the large American animation studios will be on board.
