Well you can't change their introduction, no one can, not even Bungie, unless they do what I hope they do and remake the whole series in a decade or two and be very consistent and cohesive.

Speaking of introductions, they were shown in the opening cutscenes and the ones for the Arbiter levels, and you saw bodies in Sacred Icon, not mentioning that they were in First Strike, which brings me to the next part. I sympathize in that I would like for the story-- or rather stories-- to be self-contained in the games, but the assemblage is pretty huge and some of it doesn't make for good gameplay (at least not as much as it makes for good bookread >_>) and aside from Contact Harvest they're not "their books", assuming you mean Bungie. You accept the presence of the other races (or at least did) without much explanation not to mention the weapons (needler, anyone?) but the topper is the Engineer-- I'm willing to bet if they hadn't put the Engineer model in the first Halo-- semi-hidden as it was-- you'd be saying the same things about them.
