It's 343GS's job to contain the Flood from escaping Halo, he would stay because it's his primary job. We can assume Half Jaw went back to get his fleet after dropping them off at Earth first.

In the novel GoO it is explained how that works, Elites can become ship masters by taking the title by force. So assuming he went on the ship and killed the Brute running the show, he could claim the ship as his own. You keep what you kill.

I don't think so, I don't see a plot hole here. Besides, maybe the Arbiter appointed him as Ship Commander, because the Arbiter IS the true leader of the Elites at that point. He could promote his friend if he wanted, assuming my first and logical explanation didn't happen.

Looking at the link on Bungie.net, they even said it was October 20th. I will just have to agree with that. Unless it was meant as October 20th was the date when the Carrier made it to ground... and on October 23rd was when it jumped. Oh well, maybe Urk or someone from the B.net will stop by and clarify tomorrow.
