In Response To: Re: Arguing with video game logic... (Gravemind) : One-shot guaranteed kill from long : range vs. having troops take several hours driving from Crow's Nest to : Voi, fight through Covie troops and armor and possibly failing to : accomplish their objective. Even if it was necessary for the frigates to : save all their ammo, they could've spared a couple out of the 30 or so : Longswords that participated in the assault. Anyone can be an armchair General/Admiral I suppose, lol. :)
There are already some explanations for why a MAC round may have been unworkable, too risky or plain suicide.
: (well, they did send one, but
Flying well is no guarantee that you won't be shot down even today. That's why we have stealth and even that is not a certainty as the USAF learnt when a F-117 was shot down over Kosovo.
Even the mighty F-15 Eagle, an aircraft that has shot down 104 enemy aircraft with zero losses in aerial combat, making it the most successful fighter in history.
Now I could go on, but the main point is don't underestimate how deadly AA weapons can really be.
Despite how unimpressive that AA weapons might seem in Halo 3, taking the games script and story into account, as difficult and unpleasant as it may be to swallow, getting within its engagement envelope was apparently suicide. Ah well. Think that ones pretty exhausted now.
