That may be, but there's no evidence to indicate that the AA battery posed a threat to the battlegroup at the distance it was at. Despite the fact that the AA gun was firing for a good while (it opens fire once the Chief reaches the area where he fights the Scarab), the only known casualty was that Longsword. There's no mention of any capital ships getting shot down, and if they were smart, they'd keep a safe distance (which is likely the case). We know that MACs and nuke missiles have good range, too, so I think it's safe to say that the frigates posed a greater threat to the AA gun than the AA gun posed to the frigates. A pack of Longswords (swarming all at once and/or coming from multiple directions) could've taken the gun out, too, or one could've just dropped a single H-bomb (which Shiva's are, IIRC) a few miles away from the factory and let the blast do the work.
