It's a nice idea, but I think the changes are pretty much set. The space tether is definitely on the water, as the concept art and view from the drop pod confirm, and the other landmasses, both on the map and in-game, just don't match up. I'm just surprised they changed the space elevator so radically, when the base of it was featured so prominently in that cutscene from Halo 2.
