in my (extremely large) halo LAN experience, you are right on the money. during my freshman year of college, the dorm i lived in was networked. three of us had xboxes, and this enabled us to have 10 person lans virtually every night (i only have 2 controllers). this would explain my poor grades freshman year lol. at times, we would play online, either by ourselves or with one or two other people. the "fun differential" between those online games (with friends, mind you) and a 5v5 lan party is vast. there's no comparison. obviously, this cluster of awesomeness isn't possible many places outside a college dorm - at least not on a regular basis. single player, however, is just plain fun when you're playing it for the first time. it's the same kind of fun you can get watching a movie by yourself, except better because there's CONSISTENT challenge. this is (in my opinion) superior to the multiplayer experience, because, frankly, you don't get gipped as much. it's not frustrating. i was playing some team slayer today, on live, on zanzibar, and i shot a guy in the face with a sniper rifle from froman 2 times. in the face. he was at laser AND THEN HE STUCK ME. this just doesn't happen in single player, and also the covenant minions never yell at me about being an elite, or wearing pink and white armor, or getting a k-d of -4. also i never have to mute them. for me (and many other players, i expect), the FIRST TIME THROUGH CAMPAIGN is the most fun you can have with the game. the second time through is #2. if the campaign was longer, this experience would be that much better. and in response to what you said about MP getting boring after 30 minutes: so true. this happened to me today. IT STARTS TO FEEL MORE LIKE WORK THAN RECREATION. the level of thought i start to put into the games reaches the level of thinking i have to do for an o-chem exam or something. i start to get frustrated because i don't know where the nuclephillic attack takes place: 3' hydroxy? no, there's a tert-butyl group there, it's not going to work. Pelican side? no, the shotgun hasn't respawned yet. it's much more fun to play reflexively and laugh off your mistakes, WHICH IS HARD TO ACCOMPLISH ONLINE. that's what friends are for, afterall. and team duals. WHO IS THE JERK THAT KEEPS VETOING TEAM DUALS?????
