In Response To: Re: Stuff I'd like to see answered: (ElusiveEagle519)

: Now I remember reading that. :) However, I'm a bit confused because it seems
: that you are contradicting yourself.

: In your post above you said that "We were found at the last minute, not
: long before the array activation. There was no protracted period of
: observation and it appeared that they made their decision on us very
: quickly."

: I'm assuming the "decision" you refer to was the decision to make
: humanity the reclaimers

Yes(ish), in that post I was thinking that the humans on earth were given Forerunner status because they were Forerunners :-) (Because they were of the same species) Any Forerunner left alive after the array activation would become a Reclaimer.

: , since you were responding to my previous post
: about reclaimers. Okay, good. However, in the old post you linked me to,
: you discuss how humans aren't the reclaimers but that we *are* Forerunner.
: Those are the two contradicting ideas.

Reclaimers are Forerunners.

: The other way I could look at it is that you linked me to the old post to
: show me the evidence that I asked about. In that case, there is no
: contradiction. I'll assume you meant it this way, unless you tell me
: otherwise. Moving on...

I'm confused but I'm posting and running so I hope this somehow makes sense.

In the past I have speculated that Humans were Forerunners. That was always pretty obvious or, at least, was never too far a stretch.

But I also wondered if we were the same species.

We learn that the Forerunners discovered Earth and us very late and that we may hold answers to their own mysteries. I speculated that those mysteries may include the mystery of their origins. That ties into the Cortana letters and the lost colony ideas.

I also thought, 'how would I find out if species X had what it takes to be a Forerunner?'.

I decided that the best thing to do would be to take samples of hunter-gatherer species and train them for the job. Have them carry out the job as aprentices. If they show aptitude then they get the job.

As for those who don't make the cut... I dunno, if I was unscrupulous, which I'm not!, then they would become compost. Or I could send them on the Great Journey ;-)

I'd pick hunter-gatherers because Bungie make a point of stating in the Beastarium that HG species tend to stay in that state 'for ever'. Very few graduate to high tech.

If I took a small sample from a HG species from some backwater part of the galaxy and raised them elsewhere and never told them of their origins... then they would have no ties to or rivalry with any other high tech race in the galaxy.

They would be neutral and I could groom them to take my place before I set out on my Great Journey.

Under that scenario, humans would have originated on Earth. A small sample would have been taken and raised on habitats with Earth flora. They would not know their origins and it would be a mystery to them. I could have done this a few thousand years before the array activation.

Later, they find their home world and possible answers to their own mysteries just before they have to activate the array.
