I was thinking that when humans returned to Earth via the portal that they would build their civilization on top of the previous "attempt" by humanity before the Halos killed them. I'm not necessarily suggesting that humans returned to build their new civilization upon skyscrappers and space stations and nukes, for example (that would be pretty ridiculous). It would be more realisitic for humans to return to build upon ancient civilization (think greeks or a little earlier than greeks, etc.). The Greeks had a lot of culture and civilization, and I think that would have been more than enough material for the Forerunners to determine (even in brevity) if we should be the reclaimers. I think it's more than acceptable to assume that the "archeological" evidence could be in the form of ancient ruins from the Greeks or pre-dating them. ElusiveEagle
