In Response To: Halo - a look back over seven years (Louis Wu) : http://halo.bungie.org/news.html?item=24503 : Give us what you got! It will be 7 years next month since I was in your basement, at my first LAN and asked Mark Levin, "What's he do with all those computers?" Since then, Halo has been perhaps the only constant in my life, in fact serving as the catalyst for one of my life's biggest changes. Originally, Halo was just an excuse for my friends and me to get together and wind down in front of the TV when we’d finished slapping pucks at my friend's kid brother, who we forced to play goalie. Gradually, it sucked me in like a vortex or some sort of gateway drug, moving from HBO to CBO to SBO to IBO and along the route meeting the likes of Louis Wu, Miguel Chavez and a host of equally surly characters. My hobby slowly crept from the computer and TV screen, into the corporeal. I had to explain to my parents how going to a strange man’s house to play video games wouldn’t result in stranger danger. I had to explain a beloved hat, hoodies, action figures and posters until finally I found myself trying to explain moving across the country for a temporary job at a company that keeps a severed dog head on the premises and frequently on my desk. Ultimately, because of Halo, I have a career in line with my passion, for which I am infinitely grateful. I made the sacrifice to cut my education short, opting instead for immediate gratification, something I would not recommend. But given the people I’ve met, the experiences I’ve had and the path my career is heading, however, I’d say it's a fair compromise.
