In Response To: Halo - a look back over seven years (Louis Wu) My story started with my friend getting an xbox and Halo in mid 2003. I had never been a huge fan of the xbox but once we played that game we were hooked. We played 4 player games that whole night and we would continue to play it more whenever we got a chance. In the winter the game only got better as we accidentally discovered co-op and that would then cement that game as one of my favorites of all time. I don't think I had ever played a co-op game before and the whole concept just seemed so incredibly awesome. Finally about a year later in 2004 (the summer before Halo 2 haha) I got my own xbox and copy of Halo: CE and seeing as how I couldn't play multiplayer by myself, decided to delve into the single player. Of Course I had played through half the story with my friend but I didn't really pay any attention to the narrative. I really am kinda glad I didn't though. Going through the game myself was an experience in my opinion. I mean every level had something special about it. The tension of escaping The Pillar of Autumn. The warthog on Halo. Sniping under the cover of night on Truth and Reconciliation. The beach assault on the Silent Cartographer. Everything about Assault on the Control room. The shocking reveal of the flood in 343 Guilty Spark. The loathing I felt as I went through the Library. The revelation of what Halo really was on Two Betrayals (and the banshee gameplay :D). The sadness at the loss of the Captain in Keyes. Finally though was the sense of accomplishment I got blowing up Halo on The Maw. That final run was such a great moment in my gaming life and I don't think any game has come close to the rush I got from that. Later Halo 2 would grace us and it's multiplayer online (my first online gaming experience) would lead to some of the best moments in my life so far. Then there would be Halo 3 which I still can't stop playing even with all the other games out right now. But I still love to load up Halo 1 now and then, play a little bit, and just enjoy how good it still is. Halo has truly been a good thing all these years and I deeply thank Bungie for their great game.
