In Response To: Halo - a look back over seven years (Louis Wu) : http://halo.bungie.org/news.html?item=24503 : Give us what you got! I first played Halo at a high school LAN party where most were playing Starcraft and CounterStrike. Halo was being projected on a wall and very few were playing it. I didn't think it was a big deal then. Later I went to a "Halofest" at someone's house and played multiplayer throughout the night. I liked it a bit more but to me it was still a slower Unreal Tournament with very good vehicles. Then sometime in the early hours of the morning after most everybody had gone to sleep and I had no one to play with so I started the single player game. Up until that point I had no idea Halo had a Scifi story, or that it involved aliens or spaceships. I was hooked on Halo the second the camera panned down onto the Pillar of Autumn. Then there was the awesome wakeup sequence, and that first Elite who you stumble upon while he is growling at the marines down the hall. It took me till Christmas to get an Xbox, but it was that early morning that made me do it. Favorite Halo 1 Moment: I once just barely survived the first two Elites on AotCR on Legendary. Normally I would have restarted with one red health bar left but I decided to continue. From that point on I played perfectly. I didn't sneak up on enemies or play cautiously, I went in and kicked Covenant ass all the way to the first health pack. I don't think I've ever played Halo as well as I did on that day. Favorite Halo 2 Moment: On Quarantine Zone (or whatever the Flood level is named) there's the section where you come out of a door in the wall and look over the valley with the three Flood controlled Wraiths. On legendary that part is very hard to do because of the rocket launcher Flood. But one time me and my brother tackled that section in Co-op. We made it from the opening ledge to where the Flood controlled Scoripon tank waited by charging headlong into the enemy forces. There were at least two points where we had rockets homing in on us but a perfectly timed power slide or turn caused them to hit a piece of debris or the ground instead of our Warthog. It was great fun. Its a shame Halo 2 didn't have the replay feature. Favorite Halo 3 Moment: I could only narrow it down to my top 2 Halo 3 moments. There was one time that I got killed in the awesomest way by the Brute Chieftain in the tunnel between Crow's Nest's command center and barracks. I had defeated most of the Brutes when the Chieftain rushed me. I hit X to thrown down a Portable Cover but I instead placed a Grav Lift. The Chieftain started his jumping hammer attack just as the lift went online. The lift propelled him so far up that he went out of my field of view. For an instant I thought I was safe and that he had been launched over me but then Blam! I died from his hammer. I couldn't stop laughing for a solid minute. Another time I managed to flip my LAAG Hog on that first jump outside the exit to the Crow's Nest tunnel on Salvo Highway. I killed a couple of Grunts and a Jackal and turned to face the Brute when I ran out of bullets in my clip. My shields were down and he would have killed me but he was stopped. The passenger Hog was a little late to the party but it arrived in style. Me and the Brute were just past the jump on that first hill and the other Warthog comes barreling over and clips the Brute while its still in midair. It was like some sort of epic movie seen.
