In Response To: Re: Halo - a look back over seven years (Ibeechu) I had played Halo on the xbox once at a friend's house, and was intrigued by everything about it. In oblivious friend fashion, they refused to let me watch the main menu run a whole loop, and we played some multiplayer in which I generally failed. Two years later, I heard about Halo PC, and bought it. I was absolutely blown away by the storyline, the music, and the graphics. Halo was the first really nice looking 3d shooter game I had ever owned. As such, it became the central video game of my life. Dialup prevented me from taking advantage of the multiplayer, but the campaign was enough for me. I heard about Halo Custom Edition, and got sucked into that entire community: Halomaps, Epg, the Gbx forums, and what is currently Modacity. I ventured into mapmaking, and when that fell through, into machinima, where I still am today. Because I bought Halo PC around the time Halo 2 came out, I never played the sequel. I heard things about it, and if possible mooched off others' consoles when i could, but it was always the mystical "other game". Halo 2 Vista came out, and my best friend and I sped to the nearest Gamestop after school. We played through the entire campaign that night, and since I already knew about the cliffhanger, it wasn't as much of a blow. Plus, Halo 3 was coming out later that year. The only problem was: I still didn't own an xbox, or at that point, an xbox 360. The day Halo 3 came out, I watched the G4 footage enthusiastically, even though I was unable to actually participate due to the lack of 400+ dollars. A week later the same best friend and I went to Best Buy, bought a 360 Halo Edition, Halo 3, two controllers, and some food. The next 15 hours were epic. :D We continued to play the game on and off throughout the year, and when I came to college a month or two ago, I bought a whole system of my own. I now have xbox live and am extremely happy for it. Halo has been a central feature of my life since 2004, and I am very grateful that these communities exist where all we Halo fans can discuss how much we love these games.
