In Response To: Re: Odd question, any help would be appreciated. (Grimlock) : no, they made up that humanity had to be destroyed, because if it was found : that humans were the decendants of Forerunners then the whole Covenant : religion would fall apart. They maintained a whacked view of the Forerunner, and rings, throughout. Otherwise, why attempt to fire the rings? Somehow, they came to believe that firing the rings would allow them to transcend - to become something better. Misinterpretation of 'The Great Journey', obviously. But John_117's question remains unanswerable (IMO) - we haven't yet been exposed to the exact point at which the Prophets make the first misstep. Their purposeful misleading of the Covenant to destroy humanity is a latter sin committed to keep themselves in power; their original misinterpretation of the Forerunner and the rings remains intact through the series. Who knows how and when that happened?
