I think for most people buying the xbox, it's the promise of a true nex-gen console, with good developers on board. Halo is a bonus. There are a lot of great launch titles for the xbox (Doa3, Abe, PGR, Madden, NFL Fever) and good prospects in the near future (Gunvalkrie, for starters) and titles like Project Ego, later. Regardless of Halo on the xbox, why a gamecube? What offerings sell the system? Metroid, Link and Mario. Ok. But where/when are they? Dates? Nintendo is positioning a lot, but shying away from the plate, letting the fanboys do the buying and talking for them. Microsoft's stance with the xbox has been to let the system speak for itself. The ads have even shown gameplay; compared to Nintendo's dreamlike ads. When was the last time you saw gameplay in a Nintendo ad? Wonder why? If you said, no TO xbox, wait on pc/mac Halo, get a ps2, you'd have an arguement. The ps2 has a strong library, and it's a decent console. Sony's offerings have always been based on 3rd party support, and the wonder and gameplay they can pack on the system; not a strong hardware spec. Nintendo's strength are its flagship licenses, BUT THEY AREN'T ON THE CUBE YET. Marketing based on lemming behavior disgusts me, and fanboy logic alone doesn't sell a system. And on the xbox/Halo thing..... If you're looking at buying the xbox just for Halo (or deciding not to because of Halo), I think you're selling the potential of the system WAY short. And if you're writing off Bungie because Halo is complete, I think you're selling them short, too. Both the xbox and Bungie have yet to see their greatest games. If a system or developer are viable, their offering get better with time.
