I like half-life a lot
It was the first game that I got into for plot reasons, and HL2 solidified that
I think Halo and Half-Life draw a great deal from each other (in good ways)

As for Halo not being number one, I don't think Halo should be the no. 1 FPS
I think in terms of gameplay, there are other games that outdo it
However, if there was a "best plot in games" list, it would handily take the first slot as a franchise, or the first 3 as individual games
